One of the oldest names in the district
Rooty Hill has been a centre of administration for this part of the plain since 1810, and its name has more than one suggested origin — one story traces it to a word for food, another to Rooty Hill Road on Norfolk Island, where Governor King had spent time in 1788.
The modern suburb spreads either side of the Western railway line, with industrial land to the south and a long sweep of residential streets to the north. The housing runs from post-war cottages through 1970s brick veneer to much newer infill, which means almost every roofing job here starts with working out what you actually have.
Older tile stock
Original concrete tile, no sarking, rusted valleys and ridge pointing that gave up years ago. These are the roofs where a restoration either makes a lot of sense or none at all, depending entirely on how the tiles themselves are holding up.
Newer metal
Infill houses, extensions, carports and patio roofs in Colorbond. The faults are almost always at the edges: flashings, laps on low-pitch alfresco roofs, and seals around flues and solar mounts. See metal and Colorbond roofing.
Everything in between
Extensions added onto original houses create junctions, and junctions leak. Where a newer roof plane meets an older one, we check the flashing detail and the valley before anything else — that is where the water usually is.
Hail, and what it leaves behind
Like the rest of the district, Rooty Hill takes summer storm cells. If you have had hail, get it looked at before the surface damage turns into porous tile or rusting paint film. We document it for insurance claims with dated photographs.
