Emerton Roofing and Ridge Cap Repairs

The storekeeper the suburb is named for

Emerton takes its name from William Frederick Emert, a German-born storekeeper and postmaster at Mount Druitt. Like its neighbours, the suburb was built out as part of the estate expansion around Mount Druitt from the mid-1960s, and most of the original housing is still standing with its original roof above it.

Start at the ridge

On almost every Emerton roof we inspect, the first and worst problem is the ridge line. Cement bedding and pointing were never designed to last sixty years, and they have not. Once the pointing cracks, three things happen in sequence: wind-driven rain gets under the cap, the bedding softens and washes out, and the cap itself goes loose.

A loose cap in a storm is also a safety issue. Caps that come off land on the lawn, the car or a path.

Rebedding and repointing is the fix, either on its own or as part of a full roof restoration with the valleys and surface coating done at the same time.

The rest of the list

• Porous, chipped tiles after years of hail seasons
• Rusted valley irons, often previously patched rather than replaced
• Gutters packed with debris and rusting along the back edge
• Wet or flattened insulation in the roof space from long-running leaks
• Antenna and solar penetrations sealed badly on an old tile roof

Anything leaking right now is a roof repair and gets dealt with first.

Free inspection, honest answer

We go up, photograph what is there and give you a written itemised quote. If the roof is past restoring we will tell you, with reasons, and quote a replacement instead.
